Raised on the Canadian prairies and now based in the mountains, Derek began his career as a photographer in the mid-1990s working globally across editorial and commercial assignments. He became a leading name in action sports photography, which led him to co-create the feature documentary Life Cycles in 2010. A landmark film in the genre that impacted a global audience and helped push the medium of storytelling. Since then, he has worked internationally on blue-chip natural history films, as well as with global brands and institutions.
